Fred Harz and Son enjoy working toward the future with three generations of the family working side by side. Fred Harz, Jr., Eric Harz, and Adam Harz all play a vital role in the day to day operations of one of South Jersey’s oldest and largest tire dealers.
In the 1920’s Fred Harz, Jr.’s grandfather, George Franzen, opened the shop. Back then, car and trucks were sparse relative to today, but George ran his business and provided for his family by vulcanizing tires and running a small general store out of the same location where Fred Harz and Son, Inc. is located today.
In May, 1941, George’s son in law, Fred Harz purchased the business from him. Included in the sale of the facility, the business, and about six tires.
In 1955 Fred brought his son, Fred, Jr. into the business. Over the next three decades, they built Fred Harz and Son into South Jersey’s major tire distributor, and expanded into Oils, Fuels, and automotive accessories. The 1970’s saw Fred Harz, Jr.’s son Eric join the business and Fred Harz and Son continue to grow.
At the heart of Fred Harz and Son’s ability to succeed is its ability to change with the times. Always on the cutting edge of new tire sizes and technologies, as well as customer service, the company has consistently stayed ahead of the curve.
In the 1990’s, Fred Harz Sr., who watched the small company grow into a flourishing business retired, leaving his son in charge. At the end of the decade, Eric’s son Adam Harz joined the business and is still getting the training that both his father and grandfather received, ensuring that Fred Harz and Son will continue into the distant future.
